You’ve been talking on the phone and chating a while now, and feel ready to take the next step and meet this person face-to-face ? Everyone gets nervous before a first date but don’t panic, here are some tips and advices …
Beeing anxious before a date is perfectly normal. In some ways, it feels like a job interview, doesn’t it ? What will I wear ? What will we talk about ? And so on …
Ok, but again, don’t panic and take a little time to think about it. Here are a few things and ideas that you can do to make this first date as enjoyable as possible.
- Plan a short first date. Avoid a three-hour date with a movie that lasts two and a half-hours. It’s okay to keep a date to just lunch or a short dinner hour. Remember, if you really hit it off, you can always extend the date !
- Wear clothes that make you feel good.
New clothes are fine but be sure they fit whatever way makes you feel the most comfortable and still look presentable.
- Be yourself. Don’t pretend to be interested in something just because that’s your date’s occupation or hobby. You’ve got interests and hobbies that make you who you are (and keep in mind those things we talked about earlier), and that’s what is important.
- Make a difference.
Your first date is the ideal day to build up an impression – the very first step of building a relationship. Gifts therefore play an important part in creating that impression.
- Balance talking and listening. Few people really like to talk about themselves, so make sure that you help keep the conversation flowing. It’s tough to be the one doing all the talking, so respect your date and be an active participant in the conversation and the date itself.
- Maybe this date won’t go as well as you hope. That’s okay. You simply move forward.
- Leave yourself a reasonable out. If the date gets really bad, make sure that you have an ‘out’. Have some friends aware in case your date doesn’t work out. Let your friends know where you’ll be and who you are with. This is important. Your dating may be wonderful, but it always pays to make sure others know what’s going on.
